Alisher's Vision

Over the past number of years, community involvement within Lebanon has grown considerably.  In an effort to make Lebanon a better place, a growing number of people have begun to offer their time, energy, and efforts through project initiatives and community based organizations. With their help and support, the culture of Lebanon City has grown considerably, and our ability to work together has been proven.  It is time for our Lebanon City Representatives to support these types of growth through city legislation that removes barriers, encourages, and promotes these types of citizen driven and led initiatives . It is time for all of us who live here to find ways, large or small, to contribute as well.

Business:

Before we can attract new business to the city, we must first take care of local businesses.  Once the infrastructure is in place to care for our own, we will naturally be in a position to attract others.

We can do this by:
  • Supporting citizen based city beautification initiatives.
  • Revising outdated city codes and ordinances.
  • Making business re-zoning more easily obtainable in high traffic areas.
  • Hosting public forums for citizens and business owners.
  • Promoting city based events.
  • Investing in centralized/streamlined city parking

Budget:

The current administration has proven their ability to not only balance our budget, but to keep us out of any major economic decline. However, a big issue that Lebanon struggles with is stagnant business growth. In recent years, real business development has not match the growing needs of the city.

For the City of Lebanon to continue to prosper financially, we need to take a fresh look at what we are doing to attract new business and what we are doing to help current businesses here grow.

We can, and must, do more to work in direct partnership with the business community we have. For businesses to grow, we must do more facilitate them, and to help our economy grow we must:
  • Work towards beautifying the downtown.
  • Streamline communication between the city and local business.
  • Facilitate citizen based initiatives.
  • Take steps towards repairing deteriorating infrastructure.

Youth:

For too long, Lebanon City youth have taken a back seat where it counts!!  We cannot expect young people to realize their gifts and talents and invest them in our city, without casting a vision of a better tomorrow. We need to collectively advocate for new youth opportunities.

Possible opportunities for young people in the future could be:
  • Reopening the Youth Center at the YMCA
  • Revitalizing youth centered events at local parks.
  • Expanding volunteer opportunities for students.
  • Partnering with local organizations to host classes/workshops.
  • Offer scholarships in exchange a period of service.

Housing:

A major issue that Lebanon currently faces is quality and affordable housing.

Throughout the years, city housing has rapidly declined. This is an issue not only local government but all of us should be focusing more attention on.

We need to expand housing opportunities we through modern real-estate development, but we also need to work towards improving the housing that we already have.

Another issue we struggle with in Lebanon is sidewalk quality and maintenance. Currently, city ordinance mandates home owners to maintain/repair any sidewalk by their properties, fining people who do not. We should all be advocating for the city to re-evaluate the fining metric and work towards providing aid throughout the repair process.
